As Dante and Virgil are nearing the end of the second terrace of Mount Purgatory, the setting sun blinds Dante. When he turns away his eyes, another light- that of an Angel blinds him. The song is a reflection on drab our life on earth is compared to life in Heaven.
The chorus of this song, interestingly enough, are the only lyrics throughout the entire three-volume set that does't take its words from the Divine Comedy. From my understanding, Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream must have had some Hindu influences since the term "maya" is used. Maya, from my understanding, is a term from Hinduism that means illusion. While I disagree in a strict sense, I can see it translating to the fact that what we consider "heaven" or "hell" on Earth are only shadows of what awaits us.
