I was born in 1969
in our old house in the upstairs room
just after Armstrong touched the moon
a working class suburban boom
inside the Birmingham overspill
it's fair to say it took it's toll
on a square peg in a round hole
Bowl headed we marched to school
confused by it all
life would now show me
a special kind of lonely
I watched my dad on the old upright
and heard a tune that spoke to me
the notes filled up my empty soul
his heart was warm and his eyes alight
The generous spirit of music
the sound that lives within us all
a sleeper cell of truth and light
that diamond bullet of insight
Do you know how you feel?
how to feel, how to feel?
do you know how you feel?
how to feel, how to feel?
Do you know?
Finding a way to form a band
was the best thing we ever did
a sonic wall of solid sound
from the lost souls basket of the lost and found
We played each night like it was the last
from the ashes raised up our battered heads
to a misfit crowd who understand
sometimes it's more than just a band!
and we know, now we know
how we feel and we feel
and we know how to feel
how we feel
how we feel
for the next thirty years
on and off we shared our lives
fighting through the pain and tears
elation and loves we survived
The generous spirit of music
the sound that lives within us all
i feel it in my fading light
it can protect us from the night
a sleeper cell of truth and light
will play on, play on
a diamond bullet of insight
after we're gone, we're gone
and it feels
how it feels
now we know, now we know
how to feel
