Our new single « Sapphire » has been released less than a week ago and once again your response has been fantastic. Thanks so much to all!

Some people asked for the lyrics of the song but actually this one does not have any. I am using my « invented language » which is made from spontaneous/improvised sounds without any specific meaning. Since the very beginning of Alcest, ¼ of our songs contain this language and it’s a way for me to sing without having to be restricted by the signification and sounds of a « real » language. « Les Iris », « Kodama », « Délivrance » and many others have been written in the same way.

In Spotify’s Metal Talks, Neige said Sapphire continues an Alcest tradition of using stones in the names of songs, including opal, emerald, and onyx. He also mentioned that blue is one of his favorite colors, along with turquoise and green, and he often uses it onstage.

On the distinct musical style of Sapphire:

It sounds very Alcest, but it also could have been something from my previous band, Amesoeurs, in the sense that it’s quite ‘80s. It has a little bit of this post-punk twist, like guitars will be like The Cure, and the drums sound quite post-punk style, very simple and very aggressive in a way and catchy.

It’s a very different type of track. Even if it can remind of a song like Autre Temps, which is pretty much the same structure – like verse, chorus – it also has some modernness to it, and I think it’s one of the different type of tracks of the record.
