Purgatorio: Cantos III-VII

Dante traverses through what is unofficially referred to as "Antepurgatory" where repentant sinners must wait their appointed time before being allowed to undergo their process of purging.
First Dante meets those who died excommunicated from the Catholic Church but repented in the end. Next, he witnesses those slothful people who waited until the last minute to repent. Third, Dante sees those who died violent deaths but repentant. Lastly they reach the Valley of Rulers where those who did good works but neglected their prayers sit and sing hymns while they wait.

One humorous aspect is how everyone in Purgatory seems to be in awe of Dante because he has a shadow which means he's still living. Everyone begs him to pray for them.
