I've seen this spirit with us walk
Beyond the realm is this man's talk.
The rigid stare, the steady gait,
The untouched food upon his plate.
For he does not eat, or sleep or pain,
But waits in doorways in the dark and rain.
He reads our thoughts, our mind and deed,
And waits to take our human lead.
He shall not pass without his say
We shall not fear or with him play.
Watching these cars,
I can step out into the road,
They'll go right through me.
You might see me from afar,
You'll shriek in fear
But did you really see me?
If I tip my hat will you follow me?
If I freak your cat out, will you hate me?
If I make my voice shout, will you hear me?
