Quicksilver light
Shines on the sheets
I saw you standing there
Against the dark window
Beneath the white bedclothes
The sleepers lie
One loose limbed on his back
One turned on her side
And we see their slim figures curl
Across the heath
Sublime and ridiculous
Naked obese
Dipping in and out of pools
Of everlasting peace
Sleep blinded eyes
Their feet kicking out
Joined at the hip
Joined at the mouth.
And he sees the dust coast round
Her neck her cheek
Observes the moonlight passing across
The soles of his feet
The sleepers fly
Unchained in the night
One loose limbed on his back
One turned on her side.
