Genius Annotation
English title: “And now I ask for time to Time and He answers me… I have none!”.
The last song on Darwin! continues the themes of the previous “Miserere alla storia”: man is impotent towards the slowly passing of time.
Any progress through history is vain, everything will always inevitably come to an end, we may be as advanced as we want but we’ll always be impotent towards the laws of Time.
Moreover: our future extinction is already written in our nature, and all the centuries of human evolution haven’t really changed us; we still (like all the other animals) follow our survival instinct.
History is cyclical, humanity never changes, we’re doomed to repeat the same errors generation after generation.
Eternal wheel, heavy wheel
Slow in your creaking
You're squashing
My bones and my will
Mechanism made of crosses
With your puppets attached
Hanging from your spokes
And spinning with your cogs, goes
Goes the wheel goes
It doesn't miss a beat
Changes the faces and nothing changes
The old semen of fathers
I shouted loudly my rage
But I agonize, me too, me too
Ah giant wheel
So why you make me think
If in your spinning
My mind then you'll stop
Goes the wheel goes
It doesn't miss a beat
